We are delighted to offer this stunning low-ownership 1960 Bristol 406. Dispatched to its first owner by Anthony Crook Motors, Esher. Chassis 406/5322 retains its original Engine no. 5133 (Bristol Type 110) with 4-speed plus overdrive.Original colour of ‘Bristol’ Red with Light Grey leather retained following recent repaint, re-upholstered interior and woodwork refinishing. High-quality engine rebuild just completed, including new clutch and all ancillaries. It is a highly original car retaining positive earth, plug-in inspection lamp, original tool roll (with now rare spanner), etc. and has enjoyed a cosseted life, being garaged from new and properly maintained.

Ownership History

1961 – 1996  On 16th January 1961 Col Sir Devon Amory purchased the car and would own it for a further 35 years. He ordered the radio to be replaced with a walnut panel (Regarding radios and arm rests as detrimental to good driving!), but built-in speakers remain.

1996 – 2004 (1st April1996) inherited by Sir Devon’s son-in-law, David Cavender, who also owned an Ace Bristol.  He had been using the Bristol for several years but only assumed ownership on Sir Devon’s passing.

2004 – 2005 Sold to Christopher Sherwood 22nd June 2004, by which time it had covered 66000 miles.

2005 to-date (11th March 2005) purchased by Sean Scott-Hayward at 67k miles and used extensively for touring. It has shared a garage with three other classics, including an AC Greyhound Bristol.

Current Condition:

Although the mileage is now 129,500, it has benefitted from regular use, with any mechanical or bodywork undertaken when required. It has driven reliably on tours all over Europe, Turkey and even around New Zealand.

The engine and all ancillaries have just been rebuilt by Lee Keller, repainted by Mitchell Motors and interior re-upholstered by HC Classics, including woodwork refinishing. The gearbox and overdrive have also been rebuilt during current ownership. Full detailed invoices for all work are on file.

Some modest but reversible upgrades include electronic ignition, LED lighting, larger brake callipers and hazard warning lights. Original Le Mans-type callipers available for restoration, if desired. There is provision for a satnav to be used on a sliding tray behind the walnut panel covering the original radio position.

The engine rebuild has used all the latest specification materials, including Cosworth pistons with new liners, new solid billet crankshaft and big end bearing shells, refurbished camshaft with new timing chain & tensioner, redressed valves and upgraded springs, with all components statically and dynamically balanced. The starter motor has been rebuilt, the mechanical fuel pump overhauled with new E10-safe diaphragm, oil pump fully overhauled, three carburettors stripped, rebuilt and re-jetted, water pump fully overhauled, one-shot lubrication system overhauled, and new diaphragm clutch fitted. All components bright zinc-plated or powder coated, as appropriate. Engine now has 9.5 to 1 compression ratio with higher power output.

Original operating and spares manuals present. Spare keys. Also, three large files with full service history, detailed invoices, spread sheets, brown logbook, etc. Numerous books, sales material and magazines available.
